MASTERTON NOTES
At a. meeting of the Board of Managers of the Mastorton Technical School, Mr. D. Grant, of the Education Board's 'staff, was appointed instructor in woodwork from four applicants. Two applications were received for the position of theoretical and plumbing instructor, but no appointment was made. ■ At a, meeting of the committee of the Masterton Horticultural and Industrial Society, a balance-sheet.for the late show was presented. This showed the receipts to have been £62 35., and the expenditure £74 13s. 2d., leaving a debit on the show of £12 10s. 2d., as against a proiit. for the same show last year of over £10. About 2000 sheep per day are at present being put through at the Waingwa freezing works. The butchers are working on short time. Owing to so many of the active players having volunteered for service abroad, it is probable that eonie difficulty will be experienced in getting together hockey teams in the Masterton district this season.
A Wairarapa school representative crioket team will play a match with Wellington representatives on March 17. The local branch of tho Y.M.C.A. is moving in tho direction of forming a Parliamentary Debating Society for the coming winter.
