ILL-TREATING A BULL

A HEAVY PENALTY. [By Telegrapn—l'res« Association.) Hawera, March 8; In the Magistrate's Court to-day Thos. Edgar Major, Ralf Haybittle, and Lanco Goodger were charged with having ill-treated a bull by firing at it with a gun-or pea riflo. The information against Haybittle was dismissed, but Major, whom the Magistrate considered was primarily responsible, . was fined £15, and Goodger (his servant) £1. The defendants' explanation was that they did not intend to injure the animal, but discharged the weapons with the object of mastering' the vicious beast. The bull had to be destroyed.
