sell forward at little money as tney wero towards the end of last year. As a matter of fact, 64'b tops for Bpot delivery lave been sold this week at 25d. and 50's at 25Jd-, tut the tops wero fairly good ones. We daresay if a spinner wero prepared to take May and June delivery he could still buy at 23Jd., although Id. less has actually been taken. We find things distinotly better all round, and there is not as much weakness or disposition to talk things down, although the general impression prevails that merinos are still going to be cheaper. That we say will depend entirely upo'n the competition that is seen for the wools from outside sources, and if France can buy liberally in London, merinos would not decline very much below; to-day's level. Oape tops are rather firmer thin they were, but here 23d. has been taken for- considerable weights of good long tops for February, and March delivery. Crossbreds are very strong, and eomo topmakers have made a good Jd. more for 46's to 56's than they oould a week ago, and to-day tliej; are asking as high as Id. advance. ' This is all due to the difficulty of obtaining wool from the docks, in fact the position here gets no better, the result being that topmakers are going to have to go to London to buy both merinos and crossbreds for all they are . worth in order' to satisfy their, customers and meet their January obliga-' tions.
