HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL
'At last evening's meeting of tie Lower Hutt Borough Council there were present: The Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) and Councillors Hodgins, ' Meldrum, Kempthorne, Brassefl, Parsonage, Purdy, Ball, and Hobbs. ; Councillor Ball stated in reference to the minutes of - the previous meeting that he had voted against the Trotting Club' 6 lease on the Hutt Park under a misapprehension.' .-The Secretary- of the Agricultural Department wrote pointing out that the council's suggestions that-power should be given the noxious weeds inspectors to compel. the ; -destruction of ragwort plants by burning would receive carbful consideration when an amendment to the Noxious Weeds Act is being brought down. -
The Wellington Fire Underwriters' Association forwarded a circular letter submitting for tie council's consideration certain, clauses, which they suggested should be adopted by the council as by-laws. The matter was referred to the Work 6 Committee.
The secretary of tho Poor of Great Britain, Ireland, and Belgium Fund asked that the council arrange some method of augmenting the funds, and after some discussion, it was agreed to donate £25 to the fund.
Authority was given, the Town Olerk to cha-rgo 10 per cent, on all overdue rates.
The engineer's report stated that the expenditure for the fortnight ended February 27 was:—District fund account, £176 19s. lid.; and gas account. £13 2s. 7d.
Prior to the ordinary meeting of the Hutt Borough Council last evening a special statutory meeting was held, at which the Mayor, Councillors Hobbs and Hodgins, and the Town Clerk were appointed to sign the electoral roll.
