WAR & MISSIONS
THE MOSLEM WORLD. The January numbor of the "International Review of Missions" (Oxford University I'ress) opens with a survey of the year 1914 from the missionary point of view. The work has been broken "by a huge fault due to the tremendous upheaval of the war." The aim of the writer is to review the conditions which the war suddenly interrupted, and to bring together sucli facts regarding its impact upon missionary work as it was possible to ascertain up to the end of November. Before the war missionaries everywhere reported opportunities for teaching Christianity to Moslems to he such as they had never had before. "Then of a sudden there was a change. Politically Islam no longer presented a united hostile front to Christendom: the nominally Christian Powers being, alas! at war among themselves, the changing currents of politics brought Moslem communities and Moslem troops into strife on both sides. And of the effect of this situation on the attitude of Moslem towards Christianity who dare prophesy?" A fresh statistical survey published by Professor Westermami and Dr. Zwern'er contains some very interesting figures. The total Moslem population of the world is estimated at 'J01.296.605. Of these, 70,-178,111 are under British rule and protection, and 7fyiPfi.2l9 under other Wwtflyn ■ or Cwiotiaa Govci'ii.weaUgpa jtolal. of j
