' FQE, MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS. The lolloping statement ,of ; policy Tiaß been prepared by the Labour RepresenCommittee/in view of the coming: municipal elections:— Establishment of a general maxket, hot water baths, and tepid swimming baths. Opposition to the cutting up of the Basin Reserve. Town-planning; erection of workers' homes;' clearing slum "areas; retention and of all. public reserves, and prevention of alienation of, or encroachment on, any land the property of the municipalities. " ." - Assessment of all rates on the-unim-proved value of land; with special pro-: vision 'for • increment "land taxation for civic, purposes. Municipal control, inspection, and ownership of food supply, such- as milk,' bread, meat,- and market and farm produce. and municipal cooling chambers for food-Bupply. . - Unification of the minor civic bodies, and the election of representatives 'to all existing-.trusts .and boards by direct .vote of the people. Initiative and referendum, by which 5 per cent, of qualified, yoters,may demand, that- a poll of the- electors may be taken on any municipal proposition; tho result of the referendum to be binding oil the lorsEqualising tramway sections from a central position to be decided upon under expert advice;, graduated ■ concessions and fares according to the distance passengers travel, those who travel the greatest distance receiving the largest concessions; extension of the -time for which workers'' tickets' shall'be available. - -
