MUNICIPAL FREIGHT SERVICE

| CITY CORPORATION AS CARRIERS. The Tramway Department of the City Corporation have gone into , the parcel delivery business. According to a circular which has beeu issued, the freight branch of the corporation (the circular calls it a department) has secured a. motor vehicle for working in conjunction with the electric freight car service, and is now in a position to collect and deliver parcels to all parts of the" City. On receipt of a postcard or telephone message, arrangements will be made to collect luggage, goods, or- parcels at the railway .stations, steamers, or from any address given, and luggage or parcels will be accepted at all depots and collected at railway stations and wharves for delivery to any part of the 6ystem. The circular states:—"The frequent service of passenger cars to the suburban districts enables the department to forward goods, etc., with more dispatch and at a lower rate than can be done by the ordinary carrying concerns. "Due to the fact that the majority of Wellington's suburbs can only ba reached by ascending long and heavy; gradients, the handling of goods is a matter of great importance to the residents of the outlying districts, and it is therefore the aim of the department tosolve the difficulty by taking advantage of the electric , car lines, and thereby greatly reducing the present heavytransportation charges._ As the department, is anxious to give the utmost satisfaction to the' public, complaintsrelative to delays in delivery, etc., will be welcomed, and fully investigated." The three main depots (apart from agents in all parts of the City) are Central Depot, G.P.O. Square (telephone 642); Lambton Depot (telephone 3659); and Courtenay Place _ Depot, waiting slied (telephone 705). All communications should be directed to the Central Freight Depot. G.P.O. Square.
