BRITISH AND BELGIAN POOR. His Excellency the Governor, the Earl of Liverpool, lias received by mail acknowledgments of the various contributions which Jiave been forwarded to London in connection with the British and Belgian. Relief Fund. Up to the present the 6um of £37,358 has been transmitted for Belgian relief, and £28,642 for the poor of Great Britain and Ireland. --Very grateful acknowledgments of the contributions have been made. His Excelleucy Count de Lalaing, Belgian Minister, under letter of January 1 to the New Zealand High Commissioner, says:— "I shall be obliged if you will kindly convey to His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, and to all kind donors, my most grateful thanks for their- continued help, which is so detfply appreciated by my suffering countrymen, and will ever be remembered by them."_ The treasurer to H.R.H. the Prince of Wale 3 writes, Buckingham Palace, December 31, 1S)14: —

"I am desired by the Prince of Wales to thank you for the cheque which you have forwarded to the National Fund on behalf of His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand. His Royal Highness was extremely gratified at receiving this splendid addition to the fund, and wi6hed me to write you a special letter 'asking you to make known to the subscribers how warmly His Royal Highness appreciates the generous support w'lich he has received from New Zealand.".

A UNIQUE EFFORT. ' In connection with the patriotio dramatic tour arranged by Messrs. H. Plimmer and Winter Hall, Mr. Roland Stavely, who is at present in Wellington, has circularised all tho clnbs and societies in Wellington, asking them to arrange special nights during the week's season (commencing March 20). The opening play will be Oscar Wilde's brilliant comedy "Lady Windermere's Fan." CHILDREN'S BAZAAR. On Saturday afternoon two bazaars, organised by Petone children, were held in aid of the Belgian Fund. One, held at Petone East, realised the sum of £5, whilst the other, held at Mrs. D. Sheppard's residence, Sydney Street, results od in a profit of £3 16s. Bd. It is probable that similar functions will follow shortly.
