CONDITION OF CROPS
REPORTS FROM NORTH AND SOUTH. In riew of tho importance of the question of the wheat, supply at present, tho following summaries of reports obtained from Fields Inspectors of tho Agriculture Department will no doubt be of interest: Hamilton. —Very littlo wheat, grown. Yield of 38 bushels per acre from one crop of 40 acres. Cambridge. — Estimates; Waikato County, 25-bushels; Waipa, 22; Mata--mata, 21. Te Awajnutn.—Yields much better than jinticipated. Estimated average, 30 bushels. _ Wanganui.—Season has been exceptionally good. Estimates for counties: Patea, 40 bnshels; Waitotara, 35; Wanganui, 36; Rangitikei, 35. . Carterton.—Only small areas. Estimate, 30 bushels, Wairarapa and Featherston Counties. Rotherham. — Estimates: Amnri County, 30 to 35 bushels; Waipara and Cheviot, 25 to 30. Rangiora'.—Prospects much better than earlier in season. Estimates for counties; Ashley, 25 to 30 bushels; Kowai,'3s to 40; Oxford, 25 to 30; Eyre, 30 to 35; Rangiora, 40 to 45; Waimairi,
Estimate average yield of 30 bushels over district (Ellesmere, Springs, Wairewa, HalsT\'ell, Paparua, Malvern, and Selwyn "Counties). Ashburton. —General improvement since rains. Estimate average of U bushels over bounty. _ ■ Timaru. —Rain came too lato to do milch good, and any good effects neutralised bv nor'-westers. Estimates: Geraldine 'County, 27 bushels; Levels,
23 Fairlie—January rains improved position, but. nor'-wester- largely discounted effect. Original estimate of 22. bushels for Mackenzie County. Wainiate. —Estimate 25 bushels over Waimato County. . . „ ~ , . • Oawaru — Good m portions of «aitalu County, but. average estimated at 25 bushels.- ' 1 Palmerston.—Estimated averages: Waitaki (small portion), 2o to dU bushels; Waihemo, 30; Waikouaiti, 2o to 30. Yields would have been considerably less but for rains in January. Dunedin—Yield of only crop in district, 4Q to 45 bushels. Mosgiel. —Taieri County (part), 4d bushels; Bruoe (part), 40. Grown and filled much better than was expected. ■ Sutton.—Outlook better. Expect <25 bushels per acre for Strath Taieri. Ranfurly.—Slightly better, than before, but much cannot be cut, and. it bushels holds as average over Mamototo County. _ „ , Lawrence. —Estimates: Bruce County (part), 29 bushels; Tuapeka (part), idTapanui. -Roxburgh: Big improvement since beginning of 1910. Estimates : Clutlia Cquuty (part), 30 bushels; T'iiapeka (part), 40. - - , Balclutha. —Big improvement in last few weeks. .Estimates for parts of counties m district: .Bruce, 3o bushels, Clutlia, 33. _ ~n Gore—Crops looking well. Expect 40 bushels if favourable weather continues. Invercargill.—Very little grown. Average yield expected, 40 to 4o bushels. Otautau.—Estimates, parts of connties in district: Southland, 3o bushels; Wallace, 37., , . I/umsden.—Marked recovery during last few weeks. Estimate- 25 bushels for Southland County (part), and 20 for Wallace (part). , Queenstown. — Prospects improved wonderfully. Expect 30 to 35 bushels, Lake County. . .
