ATTACK ON DARDANELLES RESUMED.

ARRIVAL OF LAN& FORCES <■ CANADIANS IN THE EXPEDITION PRUSSIAN GUARDS LOSE HEAVILY RUSSIAN ADVANCE AUSTRO-GERMAN ARMIES IN . DIFFICULTIES '"

The weather ba3 cleared sufficiently to permit of the naval operations in .the Dardanelles .proceeding a further stage, and the Allied ships detailed for the firing line in the narrow strait have been through some hot work, with, however, very trifling casualties. Another fort has been silenced, and two miles of progress lias been accomplished. The first detachment of the military expedition which.is to co-oper-ate with the fleet in the attack on Constantinople has arrived off the Dardanelles, and it is interesting to notice that Canadians and Senegalese are to tnke part. On shore, on the Peninsula of Gnllipoli, is Essad Pasha, with one hundred thousand Turks. The attack on the Ottoman capital is being attentively' watched by various States, and the progress of the Allies is reflected in several ways. In Sofia, the Bulgarian capital, the opinion is held that if the most eastern, of the Dardanelles forts is reduced, tile Porte will probably have to move over to Asia Minor. Tension in Italy is being heightened by the bombardment of the' Dardanelles, while the King of Greece has convened a Grand Council. In the Western theatre the Allies have accomplished successful operations in the Reims-Argonne region, and tho Prussian Guards have sustained enormous losses. The Russian offensive in the east and south of East Prussia is developing satisfactorily; the opinion is held by one correspondent that the German East Prussian Army was cut in two ■ last Friday." In the Carpathians, matters are going ill with the 'Austrians, and on present appearances, says one report, their armies will shortly be manoeuvred into a trap by the Russian tacticians. The prinoipal feature of the blockade news to-day is the text of the American Note to the belligerents, and Germany's reply, .The enemy's submarines have been fired on, but without result. '"
