The High Commissioner reports under date London March 2, 6.20 » m as follows:— r .I t, ' i x , London, -March 2, 5.20 p.m. Sir John French reports that the enemy's activities in the neighbourhood of Ypres^reported in previous communiques, have been checked. ''During the last three nights the patrols active in front of'our trenches found that the enemy had not ventured to leave their lines. Early on Monday morning the attack was .preceded by a heavy bombardment made on a portion of our line.'.lt was successfully repulsed. "On the left, a party of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry captured a German trench with great dash. After killing eleven of the occupantsand driving off the remainder, they succeeded in blowing up the trench (W losses were trifling. " ... "Near.; La Bassee we gained ground-steadily by skilful trench work In this zone we obtained complete mastery over the enemy's snipers, and our casualties consequently were greatly reduced. ■ ' ''At several points on our front our artillery forced the enemy's batteries to change position, and we increased the ascendency over the opposing euns which has been observable for some time-past." : ' [A Press message, in- briefer terms, covers the same ground.] ALLIES' PROGRESS IN THE CHAMPAGNE DISTRICT • ' REIMS ONCE MOKE BOMBARDED. The High Commissioner reports (under date London March 2 530 p m V . r «P?, rfcs the Champagne district, Reims was again bombarded by fifty shells. Further east at Perthes and Beausejour the Allies' progressed, despite a storm. The Allies are holding the summits parallel to their firing line. The German Guards sustained extremely heavy losses bv onr counter-attacks on Sunday and Monday,-

Some prisoners were taken. Attacks in the region of Reims were repulsed. . "We are progressing between Souain and Beausejour, and a German counter-attack at Vauquois was repulsed. We captured a huudred Germans in the enemy's night attack on Pont-a-Mousson, which failed." [A similar message has been received, from the High Commissioner.]
