. TE RURU CLTIB. , Tho ladies' race took place on Saturday in a good stiff north-west breeze. The boats got away with a good start. The Seabird took tho load till rounding Jenunghain buoy, where she was 'pass-, edby'the Rawene, which crossed the line first. All the boats : were Well handled by their lady skippers. Following were the resultsßawene, scr., 1 (MissEernan.); Seabird, scr., 2 (Miss Highet); Trixie, scr., 3 (Miss Ford), ilhe finishing times: Rawene, 5.40 p.m.; Seabird, 5.43 p.m.; Trixie, 5.45 p.m. A race for-second-class yachts will take place next Saturday." ■"■ j ' .■ ■ HERETAUNGA BOATING CLUB. Tho Heretauqga Club-held its first launch-race on Saturday. The/ race started at 3.20 p.m. over, a ten-mile course, , and brought out seyen entries as follow Messrs. ' Palamountain's Eclipse, 8 h.p. ; scr.; Messrs; Jenkins ajid Co.'s Wairtma, 8 : h.p., ~ 6njjji.; Messrs. Embanks and Co.'s The Allies, 8 'h.p., 6min. 4sec,: -Messrs. Curtis, and Co.'s Cygnet, 6 n.p., 28mui. 245e0.; F. Byan's Pioneer, 4 h.p., 38min. S2sea. . r ' , -The following were the actual times taken by the i respective boats Eclipse, lhr. Imin. 60' sec.; The Allies, lhr. llniin. 12sec.; Cygnet,' lhr. 22min. <l6sec.; Wainma, lhr. 26min. 30sec.; Pioneer,' lhr. 37min. 25sec. The Cygnet: started about ten minutes late, while' the Wairnna met with a slight mishap,' which cost her a considerable loss of time. The race caused a considerable amount of interest, and - a .iarge attendance of spectators. viewed "the events.. On the handicap times, the positions are:—Pioneer, ' 58min. 53sec., 1; Eclipse, lhr. Imin. 50sec., 2; lie Allies, lhr. smin. Bsec., 3. /. The annual inter-club cup race between the Heretaunga Boating Club and Jhe 'Te Aro Sailing Club was also held, ?Wfollowing boats competing:—Messrs. Bittle and Macdonald's Miro. G. TrevitEcE's Rnna,'A. Colquhoun's GO Bias (Reretaunga Boating Club), Mr. M'Grerot's Nan and the Lotus (Te Aro Sailing Club). This Tace started at 3.30, and boats, when, about three-parts to the Island buoy,.', mei with 'gusty weather, which,'after giving two boats a lot of trouble, brought the Miro to grief, the race being immediately abandoned. The launch Kia Ora was soon alongside, and assisted in righting the derelict, which she towed back to Petone beach, the crew meeting with no more than the customary ducking.
Afternoon tea was provided in the club room, when the officers of the City Club and yachtsmen, together with the competing boats, were received by Mrs. Macdonald, wife of the, commodore of the club, and an enjoyable half-hour was spent. •' . • ■ •
