COLLEGE GOVERNORS

MONTHLY MEETING. The Hon. J. G. W. Aitken, H.L.C'. (chairman), W. H. P. Barber, A. Warburton, and F. W. WaTd were present at the meeting of the Wellington Col-lege-Governors held yesterday morning. The financial statement showed a. credit of £2303 15s. 7d., out of which authority was sought to pay out £676 14s. 7d. for the Wellington College, and £369 lis. Bd. for the Girls' College. The fees outstanding for the first term was £1478 lis. lid. in the case of Wellington College, and £1195 18s. Bd. on behalf of the Girls' College. The rents outstanding were £298 lis. lOd. The free place fees included in the foregoing amounts were: Wellington College, £1220 45.,-and the Girls' College, £1054 Is. 4d. ' girls* college: Miss. M'Lean, Principal of the Girls' College, reported that the school attendance was 897; 83 had left and 141 new girls ■''had entered this term, -an increase of 58 on last year's numbers; "It is dear," wrote Miss M'Lean, "that extra classrooms and geatjng accommodation ara urgently needed in view of this year and next year's work. The results in recent examinations are:— University examinations: Winifred Fenton gained a senior national scholarship and Miss Woodhouse "credit," and five others matriculated on the Junior University Scholarship paper. In the matriculation examination 24 passed out of 30 who entered. No entries were received for the entrance examination to the Publio Service, but five entered and five passed the Public Service Senior Examination.

"Education Board Scholarships.—Two girls gained Junior Education Board Scholarships and five girls gained Senior Education Board Scholarships. "Free Place Examinations.—Seventyfive girls passed the senior free place examination: 11 gained proficiency certificates, and 14 had- their junior free places extended."
