SUPERANNUATION FUND CONTRIBUTIONS

FOR TEACHERS WITH THE FORCES, Following is the text of a circular dated February 19 whioh has been sent out to the various educational institutions, which have staffs whose members contribute to the Government superannuation fund, and a copy of which was submitted to the College Governors at yesterday's meeting :— "The following is a copy, of a circular memorandum received from the Department of Internal Affairs: 'The Government has decided to provide monthly by payment into the Superannuation Fund, the contributions payable by teachers accepted for service in the Expeditionary Forces, until their' return to New Zealand. Kindly furnish the Treasury with the names of the officers of your Department who have joined the Expeditionary Forces, the dates they joined and the amount of usual monthly contribution payable by each of them to the Superannuation Fund, so that the Treasury may. pay over to the credit of the fund monthly in the usual way the amount of the contributions.'

"Some doubt having beep expressed as to the limitation of the term teachers,' and also with regard to the duration of payment of the contributions by the Government, the Department of Internal Affairs now advises as follows: " 'In reply to your memoranda of December 24 and 9th inst., re the above, I have to advise you that "teacher" means and inoludes all such persons who are contributors - to the Superannuation Fund. With regard to the payment by the Govi ernment of contributions until the contributors return to New Zealand, I have to inform you that such contributions will only be paid so long as contributors continue to be members of the Expeditionary ' Forces, either actively or on leave ; granted by,the military authorities.' "Please .enable me to supply 'the Treasury with the information asked for in the second paragraph of the first circular memorandum quoted above. —E. K, de Castro, for Secretary for Education." The secretary of the Board of Governors (Mr. C..P. Powles) reported that only one of their teachers had. gone wiii the Foroes, and he had resigned his position.
