Association social last night. . t ~ When attention was directed to Me Prime. Minister's appeal that farmers ■should extend their respective cropping areas and sow more wheat, oats alia other needful erop3, it was suggested that the fanners- should be compelled to put idle areas under cultivation, whoreupon one fanner said that even if-this scheme was adopted many tanners would bo looking for profits, and the only solution of the problem as to how to eliminate this selfish spirit waß tbo imposition of a war tax. J-' s ® 6 were, he 6aid, shirkers among tns farmers, as well as other labourers. He knew of several who were not ; even blessed with a mortgage, and yet gave little to the great cause which now demanded) every possible sacrifice, lne only way, therefore, to get at tne shirker in every sphere was Dy meana of the war tax.
