ATTEMPTED SUICIDE

I A SINGULAR CASE. (By Telegraph—Prees AisociatfcS*) Auokland, February 25. : In the early hours of this morning a man named Robert Kerriman, • who was standing in the doorway of a house in St. Paul Street., using obscene language, was arrested by a constable. There.upon, the woman with whom Kerriman was living, Esther Faber, came out and declared that if Kerriman were not released she would poison herself. Kerriman was not released, and she rushed away to her room. The constable left his man and followed,- and arrived in time to snatch away a bottle of poison. While the oonstable_ was smuggling with the woman, Kerriman arrived and commenced to struggle with the constable, and in the confusion the woman got possession of the bottle and drank part of its contents. The constable blew his whistle, obtained assistance, and sent the woman to the-hospital and Kerriman to the lock-up. The woman is now progressing favourably. Kerriman, who is an educated Maori, with means, was this morning sentenced to a month's hard labour for obscene language and obstructing the police. .
