A Farewell Presentation. The members of the Methodist Ladies' Guild, Karori, were present in large numbers on Wednesday afternoon to say farewell to their president. Mrs. Cossom, wife of thf Rev. P. J. Cossum, who is leaving the. district in a month's time. Mrs. Cossum has 'taken a lively interest in the church work during her stay in Karori. The Ladies' Guild, under her presidency, has raised most of the money required for Trust purposes. .Mrs. Evans, vice-president, presented Mrs. Cossum with a silver flower epergne, a gift from the Ladies' tluild. Mrs. Cossum returned thanks for the handsome gift. Mrs. Raine, wife of tho Rev.' R. Raine-, Gisborne, sung a solo during the afternoon. ;
St. Paul's, Thorndon. At a well-attended, meeting of ladies, of St. Paul's parish, Thorndon. held yesterday morning, it was decided to give. a. • farewell social to the Rev. N. S. Bamett, who has resigned his T>osition of curate in order to become vicar, of Patea. The Rev. A. M. .Tohnson presided. The social is to he held on. Friday next (March 5) at 8 p.m. It is hoped that there will be a large attendance. The gathering will give parishioners an opportunity of saying goodbye to Mr. Barnett, who is highly esteemed iti the parish for the good work 'he has done as curate. The Plonosr Club. The visiting senior inspectors who have come to' Wellington from all the education districts of .New Zealand to attend a confcrense, together with tho heads of various education departments, were entertained yesterday by Dr. W. J. Anderson, Acting-Director of Education, and Mrs. Anderson, at an evening which was hold in the Pioneer Club. Bowls and stands of Japanese lilies, sweet peas, ancf larkspur decorated tho common room, and in the supper room tile tables were arranged with coreopsis and other flowere,_ Songs and recitations from some of the guests were much enjoyed, and a very pleasant evening was spent by everyone. Mrs. Anderson, who, with Dr. Anderson, received in the inner room, wore a gown of oyster grey charmeuse trimmed with lioral silk and lace. Among the guests were the Hon. James Allen, Minister of Education, Sir Edward and Lady Gibbes, the latter wearing violet charmeuse witli an overdress, of black lace with touches of emerald green, Mr. Hichardson (Dunediu), . Mr. 'Morton (Hokitiki), Mr. Strong (Wanganui); Mr. Harktiess (Nelson), Mr. Gow (Timaru), Mr. Bell (Invercargill), Mr. Brock (Christchurch), Mr. Sturrock (Marlborugh), Mr. Hill (Napier), Mr. UroM'ii, Mr. and Mrs. Gill,; the latter' in grey satin and lace, Mr. and Mrs. Iteming, Mr. and Mrs. Tennant, Mr. and ilrs. Pope, Mrs. Barclay, Mr. and Mrs. Spencer, Mr/ and Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Bird, Miss Groves, Miss P. Myers, Miss E. Myers, Mr. Mills, and Dr. Platts-Mills.
Wellington WomenV Political Reform League. The committee of tlie Wellington Women's Branch of the. Political Kefrai League (Mrs. U. Earle in the chair) met» yesterday afternoon to receive the treasurer's report in .connection with the hospital - : bed at 'i'rentham wh'ich the Women's Branch propose to give. Miss Speed reported having £'21 7b. in hand, contributed by the Women's League, and it was decided that £20 be handed over to the Mayoress's Fund for a soldier's bed and extras. As other money was duo it was decided that the remainder should be disposed of later on. Miss Speed was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for the work she had done in connection with the 11 matter. Miss Beatrice Day is 6taying at the Occidental Hotel. / Our Carterton correspondent writes that a quiet wedding took place at Carterton on Monday, when Mrs. Cotter-ill,-late of Tawaha., was married to Mr. T. Donovan, of Te Awaite.
Our Petone correspondent -writes 1 that a wedding took place at Petone on Wednesday at.Sjt. Augustine's Church, when Miss Constance Evelyn. Jones, eldest daughter of Mr. E. S. Jones, 'of Petone, was married to Mr. Horace E. Free, youngest son of Mr.. S. Free, of Wellington. The bride,, who' was given away by her father, wore a gown of embroidered frosted voile, with a veil and orange blossoms, and carried a bouquet of maidenhair fern,_ asparagas and roses. The bridesmaids were Miss Eva Roberts (cousin of the bride), Miss Dolly Boeille (niece), a.nd Misses G'. and J. Jones (sisters). Mr. Chas. Free was best man,' and Mr. L. Levy groomsman. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a gold wristlet watch,to the 'chief bridesmaid (Miss Roberts) was given a gold pendant and chain, and silver bangles to the remaining three bridesmaids. ■ A reception was afterwards held at the residence of the bride's parents, Richmond Street, where the usual toasts were honoured. Included'among the presents was a silver tea and coffee service from the employof Messrs.SSt. t Wood and Sons.' The bride travelled in a navy blue costume with brown trimmings and hat to match. 'Among the guests at the reception were: Mrs. Jones, who wore a navy bine costume; Mrs. Free, navy and white; Mrs. Rankin, black silk; Mrs. D. Rankin, cream voille; Mrs. Holt, saxe blue costume; Mrs. Duchntau, navy de chine; Mrs. ,F. Hazclwood, pink, voile,; Mrs. Firth, black velvet; Mrs._ Willard, blue silk; Miss Firth and Miss Ivy Firth, embroidered muslin; Miss Ashdown. crepe de chine; Miss.Rankin, white silk.
Miss Maxwell and Mrs. James Hannah were the hostesses at a "welcome party" which was given at the former's rooms in Willis Street last evening for Mis.* Cecil Haines, who lias come to Wellington from Sydney with the "Seven Little Australians" Company. Oames and dancing entertained the children, and a very merry time was spent. The Mayoress (Mrs. J. P, Luke) was among the grown-ups who wero present at tho party.
