PROMOTION OF TRADE PREFERENCE. (Rec. February 25, 10.40 p.m.) Sydney, February 2-5. The State Governor' (Sir Gerald Strickland) presided at a public luncheon in the Town Hail, promoted by the Chamber of Manufacturers and the Millions Club to inaugurate a campaign to encourage trade within the Empire and with .the Empire's Allies; There wa6 a large and influential attendance. The Governor-General (Sir Ronald Munro Feguson) was unable to be present, but wrote 'heartily "endorsing the aims of the promoters. Senator Gardiner, who represented the Federal Prime Minister (Mr. Fisher) moved pledging ■ those present to do everything to promote trade with the Empire and with the' Allies, and to discourage by every possible means trading with' enemy countries. Mr. A. H. Griffith (Now South Wales Minister of Public Works) said that the New South Wales Government's intention was to give first preference to Australian goods, 6econd to British, and third to Britain's Allies, and ■to absolutely exclude enemy goods. Mr. Joseph Cook and Mr. Wade (Opposition leaders respectively in the Federal and New South Wales Parliament's) supported the' resolution, which was carried by acclamation.
