FIGHTING THE TURKS IN EGYPT
EECENT SKIRMISHES, REVIEWED. (Rec. February 26, 1 a.m.) , ' London, February 25. The'"Daily Mail's" correspondent, describing the. fight' at.Serapeum, states that the Turkish base was in a deep sheltered 'valley, forty miles eastward. The Turks possessed ' little ' artillery. During the night attack on. El Kantara the enemy got within a thousand yards of the British trenches, but were unableto advance further, and fled. The Turks who were attacking Ferdan used four guns of small calibre. ,Their .attack 'on Ismaila never cot within' 1200 'yards, but their six-inch guns were effective against , us. Tho cruiser's fire put a gun out of action. The Turkish main body was ; near Trsun before dawn. Four thousand marched to the canal, ten thousand being left in'reserve two miles inland. .'After the failure to launch the boats the battle continued between Tusun and Serapeum. Our batteries' cross-fire, drove the'enemy towards tho apex of t'he triangle, whero tho fires converged. . The Turks attempted to counter-attack, but tho. Indians repulsed them. Two companies of Indians crossed the canal' and captured a deop trench, after meeting; with stout ■ resistance. ' They,took 250 prisoners.
