ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
DEATH FROM SUFFOCATION. ■ A verdict of death from suffocation brought on by an epileptic fit was returned by the Coroner (Mr. W. G. Riddell,' S.M.), at the conclusion of an inquest into the death of a fireman named John Thomas Buckley. Buckley, who had no relatives in the Dominion, died suddenly at a "Willis Street boardingbouse on Monday. • 'A COLLISION. 'A rather serious collision between a motor-car and a motor lorry occurred at Tawa Flat on Tuesday afternoon. The car was driven by Dr. Gray Hassell, Medical Superintendent of the Porirua Mental Hospital, who, with his "wife, was returning from town, and the lony, which belongs to the New Zealand Express Co., was driven by Mr. Blaok, who was accompanied by a man .named Rodgers. The vehicle was coming into town from Waikanae. As the result of the accident, Mrs. Hassell was thrown heavily on to some gorse, but fortunately esoaped with nothing, more than a severe shaking. The doctor also sustained a severe shook, but at the Mental Hospital show that he is little the worse as the result of tho mishap. The front part of the doctor's car -was rather badly smashed. The men on the Icrry escaped uninjured.
CYCLING ACCIDENT.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Palmerston North, February' 24. 'At the motor cycle hill-climbing competitions to-day, Alex. Anderson struck a bank, sustaining serious injuries to his head. It is expected that be will lose the sight of one eye. He. had a compound fracture of a finger.
