SHORT OF TRAM WHEELS

CAR BUILDING HELP UPAn incident of the great war will be the delay in piling on the track some of the new tram cars now all but completed. The trouble hinges on the delay in the supply of wheels. A contract was let to Messrs. M'Cabe and Richardson some time ago to ' supply a dozen trucks and wheels of a specified pattern. The trucks were supplied by the Brill Company, of the United States, who,. though they do not trouble to manufacture them, were under contract to supply the wheels as well. One of the biggest firms of tramwheel manufacturers in the world, were Krupp's, of Essen, and that 4rm supplies hundreds of thousands ,of wheels to the different firms of truck-makers in every country. On this occaswa, howover, the order evidently fottnd Krupp's quite preoccupied in the manufacture Of something which had no re* semblance to tram-wheels, and theordef had to be replaced in England. The wheels, it is understood, aro now ready for shipment, but some difficulty -is being experienced in shipping them to New Zealand. Word may now be received any day advising that they have been shipped, but in the meantime the stock of tram-wheels has run out, sad no more new Mrs can be turnedjßS iiiatil Wis aonnigflmaafr ml or«t
