THE HOP-PICKING SEASON

According to the Labour Department applications for hop-pickers for the Motueka and Nelson districts are now coming to hand very freely. The officer in charge of .the Women's. Branch of the Department; at Wellington has already selected 75 applicants for places, and these will probably go across the Strait by special steamer, leaving Wellington early next week. The bulk of those selected by the Department have had previous experience at the work. Many are going to employment at gardens where they have worked for several years past. Only women and girls are in the party seleoted.
