The wheat market is very firm, and there are reports of slight. advances on last week's rates, but the principal buyers havo not given more money; Hunter's and Tuscan changing hands chiefly at 6s. 7d. to 6e. da., and Pearl at ss. 9d„ at country tiona, the higher figure being in the coco of short.railage. The Hceperoe has arrived at Lyttelton from Canada with 100,000 ,bushels of wheat, but as 'her arrival is later than was expected, and the harvest is at least threo weeks earlier than last year, and wheat is in unusually good millinc condition, the imported wheat is not urgently, required, though no doubt it will bo specially good for mixing purposes. Only part of the Hespcros's wheat is for Ohristchurch, and tho balance for tho eouth. , Flour has adtanced £1 per ton. and is now quoted at £16 10s. per ton f.o.b. The oats market is still advancing, and the reason generally given is that forward sellers are sh<jrt in their requirements, and tho present active demand is therefore not a oonsumptivo one. "A" grade Gortons have been bought.at 3s. 9d. to 3s. 10d.; end "B" grade, 36. 7d. to 3s. Bd.; while for Algerians, 4s. 3d. to 4s. W. is being paid at country stations. The demand far barloy appears to be easier, and ss. 3d. is now the top price epioted for prime malting. There 16 no change in oateheaf chaff or potatoes. There is BOme inqnirv for Partridge peas, 'and it-is stated that 45. 6d. hao beempaid,
