Commissioner for the Western Pacific), lecturing before the Royal Geographical Society, described the grim, delight of Australia in the sudden .and.unex-. pected arrival of the opportunity to prove her loyalty and to wipe out thoroughly every' trace of the invader in the Pacific, whose intrusion was always eyed with deep distrust and dislike. He hoped that the result of a friendly readjustment with our French Allies, would be the assignment of the New Hebrides to one or the other ,of the Powers and the settlement of. the problem, of the Government of the Par cific Islands.
