He pleaded guilty, and after the Sub-, Inspector had stated the facts, proceed- • address tho concernnig the-connection which he claimed the reports in a certain newspaper had lad with tho assault. The Magistrate warned Kim, on. several occasions not to talk to the Court in such an excited, passionate manner, but "even this warning was only partially effective.; The defendant finally wound up by declaring that there was a limit to man's endurance, and that his endurance had been overtaxed.

The Magistrate said the facts constituted what appeared to be a wanton attack accused on another person. Maguire (derisively): "Oh, give that garden,staff.to somebody else." , . The Magistrate promptly ordered defendant to. be taken into . custody, on a charge of contempt. When being taken across the floor of the Court, he shouted at the Bench: "Give that garden stuff to somebody else, and not to a man who has reared a large family," and on af>proaching the door of the prisoners' room declared vehemently that he would not allow the Court to say it was an unprovoked assault.

Later on the Magistrate ordered Maguire to he brought before him, and explained to him that he had been arrested for contempt, and would be given an opportunity to apologise. Maguire declined to do so, and ultimately wound u,} by declaring loudlv that be "did not give a damn" for thai Court or any other Court. He was promptly ejected, and sentenced to seven days' imprisonment, and was fined on the other charge.
