"DIE LIKE GENTLEMEN"
GERMAN OFFICER'S TRIBUTE TO BRITISH "HIRELINGS." A letter written by a Gorman officer which lias been published in Rotterdam, while it contains sneering references to tho British troops, also payß them a high compliment. The writer says of tho British Territorials that thoy avo the dainty sons of gentlemen, kid-glovo fightors who do all the singing while' tho lingular soldiers do tho fighting. This ofiicor complains bitterly of tho superior equipment and food provided for tho English troops.; Nothing, ho says, makos tho Germans so depressed as when thoy capture English prisoners, healthy, tuddy, and warmly clothed with fur coats or vosts, donblo-soled boots, mittens, and mull'lora, He also pays a grudging tribute to what he describes as the lighting qualities of the English mercenaries, who ho says "may be hirelings, but who die iilto gontlonien."
