I AUCKLAND • OWNER'S NEW STEAMEB. The new steamer Omana, the latest addition to Messrs. E. S. Lflinb (ind Co.'s and J. Oraip, Ltd.'s line, which will run in conjunction, ■with the Ihumatn, Joan. Craig, and Inga, and was recently launched at Hylton, has been chartered. to load a general cargo at London for Fremantlo oTi behalf of the West Australian Shipping Association, and is expected to sail about February 28. The Omana iB a steel screw steamer, built to Lloyd's highestclass. The construction complies with the 'Australian and New Zealand laws. Her principal dimensions are 315 ft. by 45ft. 3in. by 22ft. 6in. moulded. Tho Teasel is described as being of the, most modern design of the single deck type, with lons bridge and forecastle, clear holds and hatches of, the. self-trimming type. On a light draught the Omana should carry 4CCO tons. Especial' eauipment for auick discharge of caa'go has also been installed. The engines, supplied by Messrs. G. Clark, Ltd., will drive her at' a high. rate. The cylinders are 22in., 3Hn., and 61in., by 39ia. stroke. / BUAHINE DUE ON. MONDAY. Shortage of seamen caused serious delay to the barque. Cairnsmore lit Dunedin. During her stay at' the southern port several members of her crew oleared out, and two liew hands joined the chip but they also left without notice the following day, taking with them another deserter. The vessel managed to get away for Buenos AyTes yesterday. The naval victory off the Falkland Islands evidently eased , the anxiety of the shipping companies, aa orders w.ere received at the Queen's Island yard to oipcdito the work of finishing a couple of vessels for the South American route. The keel of the . new vessel ordered by tho P. and 0. has been laid, and instruc-' tions given that the construction is to be pushed on with all speed. The New Zealand Shipping Company's Orari' will arrive in port from Wtitara to-morrow. She will fill up here, and sail for London on Tuesday afternoon, February ,23: Advice has been received from London announcing the departure of the three Australian Government trawlers Brolga, Kora-ga. and Gunundaal, for Sydney. The vessels, which each has a registered tonnage of about SOCO tons, were purchased at Home by Mr. : David Stead, Superintendent of Fishery Investigation, and recently underwent satisfactory trials. They are of the latest type, and it is intended to utilise them in the fishing industry. After ' supplying Government institutions, the balance of tho fish caught, by the trawlers, well be sold to the public. '
