Tennant, Parliamentary; Under-Secretary of State for' Wax, speaking in the House of Commons, said that there had. been 9175 cases of frostbite up till January 24. Monsignor De Wacliter, Bishop to Cardinal Mercier, preaching at Willesden (Middlesex) said that four priests, who had returned from Germany, in-.; formed him that while prisoners they 1 were given the foulest and vilest work to do. As prisoners they were brought out! with English and French prisoners and placed against a wall; and told they were to be shot. They stood for _an hour before. levelled rifles. A fortnight . previously they had been told the execution had been postponed. _ The same announcement was made daily.
