From a good 6tart Sir Moutoa led for a couple of furlongs and then Husheen carried on the running and was supplanted by Ladoguer, who led into the straight. The Autumn Meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club opened to-day in fine weather and before a large attendance of the public. The .racing was good throughout. The finish for the Cup between Warstep and Ogier was most interesting. The investments on the totalisator totalled .£23,691 10s., as against ,£'24,841 for the corresponding day last year. Andrea and Optician got away smartest. After a furlong had been covered Kim had chai'ge, followed by Andrea and Stone Ginger, Optician lying next. At the mile mark, Stone Ginger jqined Kim, and tho pair were together. In the back stretch Andrea was three lengths away, Castiron next, and the rest out of it. With three furlongs to go Stone Ginger headed Kim, and Andrea moved up as their approached the straight. In' the run home Andrea tried to get up on the inside and was disappointed, but he easily caught Stone Ginger 100 yards from home and won by a little over a length. Castiron was three lengths away. . Adjutant and .Recorder jumped away together, Gowanbrae being slowest to move, Itecordor had fully two lengths' lead going up the hill, Snub and Adjutant being together, and Bonsign last. A good start was effected, but Ngaitiruanui would not move, and after ■goiu" a few yards was pulled up. The first" to stnko the rails was P f! g, followed by United Service and Ogier. At the stand the field were bunched, Hessione loading with Directoire and Peg close to her, and then Warstep, Speciallorm, and United Service last. At the mile po;9t Hessione was m charge from Directoire, with Warstep next, Peg fourth, and United Service last. Shortly after entering the back stretch Warstep went to the front, Hessione and Directoire lying neit, and Specalform and first Glanco following. At the half-mile Warstep was just heading First Glance. At the turn into the straight Ogier was coming fast, and First Glance'was done with inside the distance. Ogier came with a' tremendous run, finishing so close to Warstep that the public could not say which had won. The iudge's verdict was for. Warstep by half a head, with Specialform two lengths away, just in front of John Barleycorn. Then, followed Pirst Glance, United Service', Directoire, Hessione, Snapdragon, and Peg in that order. Time, 2min. 3C sec. The pubic gave Warstep a greait ovation.

EMERSON'S APPEAL DISMISSED. Dunedin, February 17. In the matter'of the appeal by C. R. Emerson, jockey, against the decision of 'the Wellington District Committee, in dismissing the appeal lodged by him against the decision of the stewards of the Wellington Racing Club in suspending -him until March 31 for negligence in riding in that he pulled his mount, Sutala, kick somewhat and endeavoured to go in to the rails without first ascertaining that he was not interfering with any other horses, with the result that the horse Biineter struck :kis mount and so caused an accident, the judges of the Racing Conference decided as follows to-night-.— "We are of opinion that Emerson .was guilty of negligence in riding, and we therefore dismiss the appeal.—(Sgd.) Hugo Friedlander, P; Miller, B. L. Lane."
