PROGRESS OF RECRUITING
STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER. "Difficulty about recruiting I" said the Minister of Defence, in reply to an inquiry by a reporter yesterday. "Why, the Fourth and Fifth Reinforcements are in camp now, and the officers of the sixth aro ready to come in as soon as we send for them. Some' districts may be a little bit short in their quota now and then, but the shortage is always made up by surpluses elsewhere. And the m<?n of tho Fifth Reinforcements that have just come in are, I am informed, equal to if not better than any men wo have had before. The officers of tho Fifth will certainly be better than any others we have had, but, of course, wo are giving them more trainI should not be surprised to learn that there are enough 1 officers, non-commis-sioned officers, and men registered already for tho Sixth Reinforcements."
