SOLDIERS IN TOWN.

Sir, —I am sure you will' aflaw me a little space in answer to "Another Citizen" re the above. ' He says "he was about town last Saturday night and saw several troopers 'quite happy,' but none 'obstreperous.'" Well) if that is his idea of happiness, it is not mine! lam very glad to say! With regard to. none being "obstreperous,'" I would ask him to read lie Dominion's report on the affair (Monday morning's paper). It was described hi a very fair manner, and no one could challenge it! Why, the police themselves had to take shelter in. a shop until reinforcemnets arrived. As to disgracing the "King's uniform," if tlftt 16 not a disgrace to it I do not know what is—l fail _to see any mockery about it. _ Shutting the hotels and giving our police assistance is answered.in the local columns of your paper this morning, viz.: "A body of military police is being formed to assist the civil police in the execution of their duties. A parade of the now body, was hold at Defence Headquarters yesterday morning." This is good reading, for which all law-abiding citizens will be very, thankful. About English towns I cannot answer him; I have never seen one. It is the welfare of our own city we have to guard.—l am, etc., A CITI2EN.
