Mr. Arthur Back, of Lyttelton, who has been mining in the Transvaal for the past two and l a .half years, arrived in England a fortnight ago from South Africa, with the intention of joining King Edward's Horse.' Mac'kay of Wellington, has visited Edinburgh and the Midlands since his arrival in England, and intends to go down to Cornwall, though ho will spend most of tho time in London before leaving for home in March. New Zealand papers aro asked' to announce the birth on December 19, at 27 Hainfchorp Road, West Norwood, of a son to Mr. and Mrs. John Blencowo; also the death on the 20th' instant, at 175 Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, S.E., of Hannah Mumford, formerly widow of First-class Officer T. London, of tho London Fire Brigade. Miss Jessio Cherrett. of the Girls' College, Wanganui, who_ has been very ill, but who is now making a little progross, spent Christmas at West Hartlepool, where her uncle had a marvellous escape from injury during the recent''bombardment. Mrs. Nathan has resigned her seat on tho committee of the New Zealand War Contingent Association, as she left on her return to New Zealand by tho Ruahine on December 24.
