DEATH FROM HEART FAILURE. An inquest was held by Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M.j yesterday afternoon as to the cause of the death of Alfred Ellis, a wharf labourer, living at Wadestown, who died suddenly while shovelling coai on board the Kaitangata on Monday. Mr. H. F. O'Leary was present on behalf of the Wharf Labourers' Union. Deceased's brother-in-law, J. W. Bailey, gave'evidence to the effect that deceased had always been in good health and was a teetotaller. Dr. Gilmer, who made a post-mortem examination, said the state of the lungs showed a slight form of pleurisy, while the heart showed marked signs of perecarditis and degeneration. The.state of the heart was quite sufficient to cause death by any exertion. Death was dne to heart failure. The Coroner a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence. HOSPITAL-REPORTS. . Sidney Shears, who was injured last week through falling off a ladder, and who has been lying in a critical condition in the Hospital ever since, was reported from that institution _ last night to be a little easier. _ Private Harry Dorge and Miss Ivy Richmond, who were admitted to the Hospital suffering from injuries received through other accidents, were reported to be I progressing favourably. I SHROUDED IN MYSTERY. By Telegraph—Press Association—CoDyrifbl Foxton, February 9. • Although diligent search has been made 'since Saturday week, the whereabouts of Mrs. Dixon, 77 years of age, who went for a walk along tho beach on the date mentioned, is shrouded in mystery. "An old man named Solomon Blare wandered away from the Old People's Home a week ago and has not yet been traced. FOUND DEAD. ■ Tauranga, February 9. Mrs. Turabull, a widow, aged 71 years, living alone, was found dead in her house yesterday. An oil stove was burning and a meal was partly laid. The cause of death was heart failure.
