Several Territorials appeared.in thft Police Court this moraine charged with) failing to render personal servico iwdet; the Defence Act. An ofiicer of tho Defence Department stated that shortly] after tho war broke out it was an-, nounced that there would bo no further] prosecutions for some time., Quite sud-| denly, a numbor of men ceased attending parades. Mr. Bartholomew, S.M., endorsed the remarks of tho officcr that' the present was no time for a man to, shirk his responsibilities, and lio must', iniposo fines which would make shirkers, realise their duties and harden them up. Four defendants were each fined £2 ami! costs, and another 10s. and costs. Other cases were adjourned.
