The Now Zealand Shipping Company's Tongariro, which oleared Wellington for London on December 22, arrived at her destination on February 3. Having had a thorough overhaul the whistling and lighting buoy was towed outside of Godloy Head on Thursday afternoon and again placed in pomtion. It is evident that tho Newcastle-New Zear land coal trade is on tho increase,.as the Melbourne Steamship Company has decided. to replace the steamer Brisbane, 1119 tons, with the Hobart, 2463 tons. After having loaded at Napier, Gisborne, Tokomaru Bay. and Lyttelton, the Otaki will leave Wellington finally for London on February 25. The Chatham Islands Fishing Company's' steamer Himitangi is scheduled to leave Wellington for the Islands at 5 p.m. today. For the purpose of undergoing her annual overhaul and survey, the Greymoutb dredgo Mawliora arrived at Wellington yesterday. The New Plymouth dredge Paritutu i 6 at present being overhauled here. Messrs. Bannatyne and Co. advise that the coastal steamer Defender will be dispatched from Wellington for Picton and Hokitika to-morrow. With 7015 orates of cheese for transhipment to the Itemuera for Home, the Union steamer Pukaki is due here from the Bluff to-day. - Latest adviccs are that the 0. and D. liner Star of Australia is duo at Melbourne from London towards the end of this week. She is due at Auckland abont March 3 and here about a week later.
