THANKS FOR THE SOX

Burgess, of New Plymouth, was one of tho ladies who knitted sox for tlhe Expeditionary Force, and a day or two ago she received a letter irom Private 0. A. Jenkins, of tho 9th Wellington Regiment, now iu Egypt, who stated that he was the lucky recipient of a pair of sox in llis Government kit bag, inside of which ho found a card bearing Miss Burgess's name. , Ho therefore fait constrained to write and thank her for her gift. In his letter he said that he under- ■ stood that they would remain in Egypt until March, when they would go to France and straight to the front- He was disappointed at not having gone straight to England, as having only been out in New Zealand three years he was looking forward to spending Christmas at Home. In conclusion, he said: "You can bet 1 your life we will slather those Germans up if we get half a chance."
