Wetfding for the Basilica. The marriage took place in the Sacred Heart Basilica, Wellington, cu Monday, January 25, of Mr. John M'Kcowen, of the Chief Engineer's Office, Railways, Wellington to Miss C. M. Godseil, of the Accountants' Branch, G.P.0., Wellington. A Nuptia Mass was solemnised by the Rev. Father Tymons. The bride was attended by Miss K. M'Keowen, sister of the bridegroom, and Mr. J. M'Keowen attended the bridegroom. Tlie presents included a handsome dinner service and suit case from the staff of the Railway Office, also an oak case containing cutlery from the staff of the Acco intants' Branch, where the brido had been extremely popular. The honeymoon is being spent in the South Island, and will include a visit to the Cold Lakes.

Health of Women and Children. The monthly meetinp: of tho Society for the Health of Womor and Children was held in the Plunket Rooms, 61 Pirie Street. Thero were present Mrs, Massey (in the chair), Mesdames Ward, Winder, M'Lean, and Hosking, Lady Stout, Misses Barnott, Kirkcaldie, and Peach. Apologies were received from Mesdames Fitch'ett, Luke, Cook, and, Miss Cable. Subscriptions were handed in by tho treasurer from: Mrs. Gumming, £1; Mrs. Penny, 55.; Mrs. King, 65.; Mrs. Keeling, 2s. 6d. The nurses reported a very satisfacoory demand for tlie -society's book. They had been very busy during December and January, there being 35 new cases in December and 30 in January. The number of visits paid by mothers to the rooms were 232 in December and 150 in January. Nurse Pascoe returned from her holiday on January 11, and Nurse Mitchell arrived from Dunedin on February 1 to take up ler work with the society. .Nurse Stamper, who had been relieving Nnrse Pascoe and acting as third Plunket nurse until Nurse Mitchell had finished her training at tho Karitane Hospital, left for Dunedin on Monday. Tlie committee very 'much appreciated the thorough manner in which Nurse Stamper had carried out her work.

Methodist Carden Party. A very successful garden party, arranged by the Ladies' Guild of tie Methodist Churchj Karori, was heid in the Karori Tea Gardens on Saturday afternoon. There were several competitions, including one for decorated sunshade and hoops, and the antics of Pinch and Judy collected a highlyamused audience of small people, a round them. Quoits, tennis, tugs-of-war, and other amusements added to the entertainment of the afternoon, and the day being bright and sunny, a number o£ visitors from town attended. Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P., and Mrs. Wright were present, the former being' presented with a button-hole by Miss Kitty Blackmote, Mrs, Wright receiving a bouquet from Miss Dorothy Halliday. Mrs. Hildreth, tho Mayoress of Karori, was also presented with a bouquet by Miss Violet Ash, and the Rev. Mr. Cossum received a floral memento of the occacion. The winners of the sunshade competition were as follow:—For ladies over twenty-one: Miss Shrimpton, 1; Mrs. Cathie, 2. Ladies; under 21: Miss Dryden, 1; Miss Daphne Dryden, 2. decorated hoops, girls over 12: Miss Grade Rame, 1; Miss E. Tingey, 2; girls under over 12: Miss Flora Tingey, 1; Miss Doris Smith, 2; Marjorie Hargreaves, 3. Skipping, girls under 12: Irene Cooper, 1; Catherine Farquhar, 2. Cake competition—Plain cakes: Mrs. Dyer, 1; currant cake, Mrs. Raine, 1; sponge cako, scones, Miss Garrett, 1; toffee, Miss Flora Raine, 2. All the entries for the competitions became the property of the stall-holders, and wore afterwards sold, an approximate sum of £20 being revived. The judge for the cake competition' was Mrs. W. E. Cooper, and prizes were afterwards presented by Mrs. R. A. Wright. The Mayoress of Karori took an active part in the proceedings, and judged the' decorate! sunshades and hoops. A number of pot plants which had boen donated for the purpose were sold. Mrs. P. J. Cossum is the president of the Ladies' Guild, (Uid Miss, Evans the secretary, and both materially assisted in securing the success of the. undertaking. Tea on the grounds was greatly appreciated, and the many visitors thoroughly: enjoyed an afternoon spent in the pretty tea gardens, which are at the present time looking extremely picturesque.

- Sir Rob'ert and Lady Best, who have been spending the last,two or three weeks in New Zealand, left Wellington on Friday on their return to Sydney. Mrs. 0. ,H. Izard left by the Moeraki for Sydney, where she joins the Osterley for Egypt to see her son, who is a member of the Expeditionary Force stationed there. Mr. and Mrs. A. Strang and Miss Stiang, of the Weirarapa, motored through to Napier on Friday. : Mr. and Mrs-. P. Elworthy and family, Miss Helen Macdonald, and Mrs. and Miss Kighton are among the passengers from who are leaving by 'the Remuera this week. On Satnrday morning, at St. Savionr's Church, Sydenham, a wedding of military interest was celebrated. The bride was Miss Helen Margaret Richardson, daughter of Colonel' Richardson, "Albury," of Cashmere Hills, and the bridegroom Major Richard William Pinwill, of the King's Own Liverpool Regiment, only son of Captain S. C. Pinwill, Royal Irish Fusiliers, of Trebane, Trobus, Cornwall. Miss Eileen Westenra was bridesmaid, and the bridegroom was attended by Captain S. A. Robinson, of the Imperial Staff, as best man.
