MAGISTRATE'S COURT

TWO YOUTHS IN TROUBLE. Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided over a sitting of the Court yesterday. A youth, aged 16 years, named Morgan Thompson, was remanded for sentence to Friday next on charges of stealing various articles of a total value of £2, the property of Henry Bristowe, and a pair of goggles valued at 2s. 6d., the property of Thomas O'Connell. Inspector Hendrey explained that the lad had been living in a lodging-house in the City, and-in the past had been living with the Maoris in dfferent parts of the West Coast. The Magistrate directed that the lad be kept apart from the other prisoners. Another youth, Thomas Lovelock, aged nineteen, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon for stealing a pair of boots, a dress-basket, and other articles from a seaman's cabin on the Terawbiti. The Magistrate ordered the youth to repay 6s. 6d. he had realised on the stolen property, to the second-hand dealers concerned. Inspector Hendrey said that the accused had deserted from the illfated i'okomaru when she was last here. A serious charge in respect to a girl of 5| years was preferred against Ernest Ivor Nilsson. Mr. T. M. Wilford appeared for accused, and a remand ' was agreed to to Monday. Bail, which was allowed in £200, was immediately forthcoming. . Thomas M'Grath, for whom Mr. J. J. M'Grath appeared, was fined £3 with witnesses' expenses 10s., in default one month's gaol for using bad language. For insobriety, Lucy Mitchell was fined 10s., in default 48 hours' imprisonment, and four first offenders were dealt with. BY-LAW CASES. The following were penalised for the by-law breaches mentioned.:—Charles B. Buxton, ordered to pay costs 7s. for leaving a motor-car unattended; David O'Hara, fined £1, with costs 75., for failing to comply with a drainage to®For allowing stock to wanderfines were imposed on the following:—Henry M'llroy and Thomas Sullivan, each fined 55., with costs 75.: John Stoneham, fined os., with costs 135.; Allan Orr, ordered to pay costs 7s. The information against Maurice Hasler, similarly charged, was dismissed.
