ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A CHILD'S DEATH. An inquest was held by Mr. D. (J, A., Cooper, S.M., yesterday into the death of a ten-year-old child, Nella Picclii, daughter of Duilio Picchi, who died suddenly on January 27. The evidence was that the little girl had beeu put to bed on the evening of January 27, and at about 11 p.m. came running into hor mother saying, Mummy, mummy," and then died. The i° Hamilton Gilmer was that the child suffered from a distended ' la d a weak heart, and was sulferuig_ from the initial stages of pneumonia. The combination of these ailments was the cause of death. A\ verdict was returned accordingly bv the Coroner.

An inquiry regarding the death ofc. a boy named Petorson, who after playing about the newspaper offices on election night, and complained of a pain in his head, dying a few hours after ro turning home, was held this morning In view of the fact that it was alleged that tho boy had been struck on the head by a companion, the police had prepared for a full investigation of the. facts, but the medical evidence made it: clear that the blow. received was not the direct cause of death, a post-mortem examination disclosing the fact that, death had ensued from internal hemorrhage in the brain. The doctors gavs evidence that the cause of the hembr< rhage was not duo to any blow or ester, nal violence, but to some initial weakness in tho vessels themselves, which were liable to rupture under excitement. The Coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony, n». blame being attachable to anyone. WOMAN'S SUDDEN END. Hawera, February 5. ' Jane Owen Trilford, a married woman, while milking at Okaiawa on' Thursday evening, was seized with a : coughing fit and expired shortly afterwards. Deceased, aged forty-two years, ■ had never previously complained of illness. KILLED BY A LOAD OF CHAFF ' FALLING. . (By Megranh.—Special Correspondent* Masterton, February 5. News reached here this evening that a man named Matthew Wattets, single, aged about 25 years, was killed ' this • afternoon on Uie road near Blairlogiei through a load of chaff falling on him. He was going out to a metalling contract at Riycrsdale.
