EASTBOURNE AFFAIRS
The Mayor of Eastbourne. (Mr. ,W. Organ) states that the ferry account for the month just ended shows a substantial increase when the figures, ars compared with those of the corresponding month last year, when it will be remembered a profit was shown. The Mayor is of opinion that the undoubted success of the municipal ferry service relieves residents ami ratepayers of any anxiety in this direction, and he points out that the people of the district are Sow at liberty to turn their attention to the question of securing an' adequate water supply. With regard to the water scheme for tho borough, it may be mentioned that a party of councillors and residents visited the proposed source of supply at tho_ end of last week. The object of the visit was to ascertain the condition of tho supply after the prolonged drought, and it is understood that the party was well satisfied with what was seen. Tho committee appointed to roport on the subject at the next meeting cf the oouncil is pressing forward the matter of inquiries as to anv costs over ■ and above previous estimates. It is probable that the proposal will be'submitted to the ratepayers at an early date.
