SWIMMING AND LIFE-SAVING AS SCHOOL LESSONS
MB. ROYD GARLICK'S OPINION. (Br 3Weirrap.li.—Press iMooiatioa.l Christohurch, February 5. Mr. Royd Garlick, Director of Physical Education, conferred with representatives of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming. Association, and-. LifeSaving Society. The chairman brought under Mr. Garlick's notice the lack of instruction in the schools regarding life-saving, and swimming. Delegates urged that swimming and life-saving lessons' be made- compulsory at all schools, and, that steps bo taken to train teachers. Mr. Garlick said he believed hresaving and swimming lessons should bo compulsory at all schools where swimming could bo taught under the capitation"system. It was impossible to undertake training in teachers' camps as they now oxisted.
