ANOTHER TROOPER'S PLEA.
Sir,—Allow mo in your valuable paper on behalf of the t-roogs in camp at Trentham to protest against the railway fares at present charged members of tiie Expeditionary Forces whilst on leave to say good-bye, etc., to their friends and homes. Hundreds of these men havo thrown up lucrative billets and good salaries, and now get 4s. or ss. a day,' so you will see that it takes many days' .pay to find the necessary fare, say, from Trentham to Auckland or Invercargill, where many of the men hail. from. It saves expense to tho Government to mass tbe troops at Trentham, so surely those in camp there should have some consideration from the • Government when they have to go home and return to camp. I understand in England, where'the railway companies are privately owned, that every soldier or sailor on leave is entitled to travel at the rate of half single fare for return journey, and that the same applies to railway servants in the Dominion. So surely these men who have thrown up their easy well-paying billets, to earn only a shillings should be. far better treated in these matters. —I am, etc., ONE WEARING THE KING'S UNIFORM. Trentham, February 3, 1915.
