LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
free railway passes for SOLDIERS. Sir,—Several people who have a senso of their duty towards us, who are risknig our all to enable them to continue living under the freedom of the Union Jack, havo already written pleading our cause re the matter of free passes or commutation tickets on our railways. Before proceeding further, allow mo to express thanks, on behalf of myself and others, for these gentlemen's kindness. Now for my main argument. All Civil Servants travel on our railways at quarter rates. Aro wo not Civil Servants? Certainly we are; and aro therefore entitled to this concession, and I'intend to demand it when setting out next -week to visit my home in Auckland, perhaps for the last time. I hope ethers will make the same demand. Might I appeal to Mr. Herries and Mr. Allen to consider that a. large number of us fellows-have dependents and can spare but little out of our daily ss. towards heavy travelling expenses. Hoping our "Square Deal" Government, of which, by the way, I am a supporter, will early make some statement on this matter, ! will conclude offering thanks in anticipation of insertion of this letter. —I am, etc., SQUARE DEAL TROOPER. Trenthain, February. 4.
