Bishop Sedgwick left Napier yesterday morning for Auckland. At Trontham military camp Captain 1. J. Gardiner has been appointed Camp Paymaster, and Sergeant West Pay Sergeant to the 3rd Reinforce-' ments. The appointment of Mr. W. J. 'Anderson as Acting-Director of Education, from February 1, 1915, was Gazetted last night. It was notified in the Gazette last night that Mr. Joseph Albert M'Grath has been appointed under the Licensing Act, 1908, to be an inspector of clubs, for the purpose of inspecting and reporting upon chartered clubs. _ Mr. Grey Phillips, who has been staying in tho South Island, and who returned to Wellington on Tuesday, left yesterday for Levin. Commissioner Hodder and Mrs. Hodder, of the Salvation Armyj together with the chief secretary and Mrs. Powley, returned to town from their northern "tour yesterday. Tho Commissioner proceeds to Dannevirke, Gisborno Napier, Hastings, and Feilding next week. Major-General Sir Luke O'Connor, whose death was announced by cable yesterday, was a cousin of the Mother Superior at St. Bride's Convent, Masterton. Mr. D. J. Cameron, of the Wairarapa, leaves to-day for Egypt on a ■visit to his son, who is a lieutenant in the Expeditionary Force.
