LICENSING CASE
CONSTABLE SEVERELY CRITICISED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, February 2. A case in tho Magistrate's Court today took an unusual turn. The licensee of the Imperial Hotel was charged with permitting drunkenness on licensed premises, and a constable gayo evidence that ho saw two ■ employees of the Telegraph Department leave the hotel intoxicated at the closing hour. ■ One admitted that he had been inside sinco the afternoon, and complained that he had been robbed. Tho constable said he told the man to go home and call at the station next day. He (the constable) did not arrest tho man because he looked respectable. The Magistrate severely criticised the constable'B action in not arresting the man. Under the circumstances the case must, break down. He dismissed tho charge.
