RuaAune, which is en route from London to Wellington, was at Cape Town, on January 29. S.S. TOKOMARU A TOTAL LOSS. Advice has been received by the head office of the Shaw, Savill end Albion Company to the effect that the steamer. Tok:>maru and. her cargo, which wet; attacked by a German submarine off tho port of Havre last week-end, is a total loss. STEAMEBS' TIME-TABLES CHANGED. Consequent upon the WcHington-Lytlel-ton ferry service being disorganised on account of trouble with the Maori's firemen, arrangements have been made to run the Patoena in the servico in place of the Maori. Until further notice tho Poteen a will lea.ve Wellington for Lyttelton on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Mondays at tho usual time of departure for tho Maori. The Maponrlka hen been withdrawn from the Wellington-New Plymouth-Weetport service pro. tern., and will be engaged in the Wellington-Picton-Nelson servico in placc of the Pateena. Arriving : at Wellington, from southern porta this morning, the Oarinna will be dispatched for Nelson and New Plymouth this evening, taking tho Mapourika's cargo to the latter port.

' A -cablegram has been received in Wellington stating that the A. and A. Line's steamer Marcsfield cleared New York on January. 17 for New Zealand and AuatraHaji porta, via Panama Canal. Mr. J. Smith, purser of the Pateena, has joined the Monowai, and Mr. S. Ewan, late of tho Rosamond, has been appointed purser of the Pateena. Mr. E. Thomas, second officer of the Pateena, came ashore at. Wellington' yesterday. Mr. A. Ewan, second engineer of tho Moeraki, left that vessel at Wellington yesterday to join tho Fifth Reinforcements. The many friends of Captain G. F. Entwistle, the popular commander of the Huddart-Parker liner Rivciina, who underwent a serious operation at St. Malo Private Hospital at Sydney recently, will be pleased to know he is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Royal mail steamer Moldavia left London the following German prize vessels were eold;—Steel barque Perkeo, ex Brilliant. 3609 tons register, built by Russell aad Co., at Port Glasgow, in 1901, and previously owned by F. Leeisz, of Hamburg, and the steel barque Goldbek, ex Miltonburn. 2476 tons regieter, built by Barclay, Curie, and Co., Glasgow, in 1893, and hitherto owned by Knohr end Burc-hard, of Hamburg. The Perkeo realised £20,000. and was acquired by Mr. A. Monson. of Tonsberg, and the Goldbek brought £6900, being secured by Messrs. 6. O. Stra-y and Co., of Christianssand. ■ For the purpose of picking up Home cargo, the New Zealand Shipping Company's chartered steamer Mottisfont tg due at Wellington from Picton this morning. She will procecd on to Napier on Friday next.
An addition to Australian shipping will bo the Omana, recently launched at Hylton for R. S.' Lamb and Co., of Sydney. The Omana, i 6 a etoel screw steamer, built to Lloyd's highest cla66. The contraction complies with the Australian and New Zealand. laws.. Hot principal dimensions are 315 ft. by 46ft. 3in. by 22ft. 6in, moulded. The vessel is described as being of the most modern design of the single deck type, with long bridge And forecastle, clear holds and hatches of the 6elf-trim-ming type. On a light draught the Omana should carry 4000 .tone. Espocial equipment for quick discharge of cargo hoe also been installed. The engines, supplied by Messrs. 6. Clark (Ltd.). will drive her at a hiph rate.- The cylinders are 2fcin., 37in., and 61in. by 39in. stToke. Information h«w been received from London stating that the C. and D. liner Hawkes Bay ecu led from that port on January 23 for Melbourne, Sydney, and New Zealand porta, via Cape of Good Hope.
