Some, time ago a bacon company was formed mthcForty-Mile Bush, and curing , works were established in connection with the Waingawa freezing works. The project did not meet with the support from-farmers that had been expected, and the works were closed down. Au effort is now being made to revive tho industry on lines similar to thoso adopted in. South Taranaki. Mr. AEddie, a prominent farmer of the Forty-Mile Bush, has been interviewing dairy companies on the subject, and it is probable that a meeting of representatives of these companies will bo called at an early date to endeavour to give practical effect to the movement. FRUITGROWERS' FEDERATION
A meeting of Wellington residonts who own orchards in the Montcre district, Nelson, was held in tbo office of Messrs. J. T. Horn, Ltd., Mr. T. W. Kirk presiding. The meeting was for the purpose of assisting the establishment of a New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Federation, so that the industry might bo placed on a more satisfactory footing. It was pointed out that the Government has promised to give a £ for £ subsidy up to £200 on money subscribed by the drcliardists towards organising a federation, and those present agreed to contribute at the rato of one shilling per acre on the planted area of their holdings for this year, in order that federation should be brought about. |It was also resolved to form a Fruitgrowers' Association, to be called the Wellington-Moutere _ Fruitgrowers' Association. An interim committee was appointed to draw up a constitution. '
In the month of November of last year a two-year-old Shorthorn bull, Earl of Kingston, was 'sold at 3000 guineaß by the breeder, Earl Manners, to the Edgcote Shorthorn Company. The bull was first in his class at the Royal Show at Shrewsbury. Forty varieties of potatoes are being tested at the Ruakura Farm of Instruotion this season. Among them are the following varieties from the State farm of Deloraine, Tasmania: —Excelsior, American Bruce, White City, Harman Circular, Rector (Scotch seedling), Mao (Scotch seedling); Celt (Scotch seedling), and Pict (Scotch seedling). Additional cattle-pens are being erected at the Pahiatua Farmers' Association The pens will be concreted, and should prove valuable to the' farming community and stock buyers this autumn.
