OPENED IN FINE WEATHER SUCCESSFUL GATHERING IBy Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Fellding, February 2. Feilding's eleventh annual show wae opened on tl'0 ; Feilding racecourse today.' The weather was excellent, but there'are signs of rain- along the line this . evening.. . The show, .bears every indication of sucoess. Entries are more numerous than over, the stock'of very hne quality, and the people are taking a\keen .interest in the gathering. : Two particularly satisfactory features are the-increase in exhibits of cattle and the; greater nnmber of sheep shown. There are fewer horses than there were last and fewer pigs. On account of the season of the year at which' the show is held, the fat stock are necessarily tho feature, and the fat stock in the pens are distinctly good. The , Southdowns '.' ! were . > greatly admired. Most of the judging was done to-day, but' some remains to be completed tomorrow. ■ ' The championships awarded ao far •are:— - Hereford Bull.-r-E." The troop horses' . competition: !' was watched with much, greater inferI; est 'than usual. The main conditions | -were that the horse should not exceed f 15.2 hands and should bo able to I carry tip to 15 stone. Nine entries sent 1 in. N..6. Bailey was the only ' bteader to enter. He showed two nice rraares, and they were awarded the-first 'S md tho second prizes. ■ Their foals also : 3 ec u red first and second. The other [• Sack'classes.-will -he' judged to-morrow. 'The firsts were: awarded, to Joy Robert Macikajr, Willie "Levin, and J. "Campbell. ; pedigree Cattle SBctions. f Taking it on the whole tho show of pedigreo cattle was fairly good. Short. wins included the championship. (The Shorthorn bull championship was [awarded to William Gibson. Among [the Ayrshire bulls J. Fitzherbert. Basil Thomson and P. Bremner won the two classes provided for espdrt sheep. There was very keen competition in tho fat lamb classes. The stock was exceptionally good. The entries were largo numerically, and the task of judging was difficult. The first prizes went to J. Knight, Highden Estate (4), Reid and Sons, A. Campbell, and W. Howard Booth. ' Pedigree Sheets. : J: Knignt was by far the most successful of the breeders who showed in the Southdown classes. He won both the ram and the ewe championship, and a :majority. of the firsts. In two instances he was beaten by Ellis Bros., and in one by S. R. Lancaster. Mr. Khight's firsts numbered sis. ■ There were particularly heavy entries in. the Romney classes. G. E. Allen did very well in the ram classes, securing the championship, two other firsts, and a' second. W. Gibson beat him in the class for rams 33 months and over. Joseph Corpe came out easily at the head of affairs in the Romney ewe competition. Six firsts went his way. The Lincolns were another strong and very creditable class. None, of the breeders/secured anything' like a monopoly of tKMionours, and the prizes were well spreid-about. The champion ram was shown by G., V. Tay-; lor (2),' J. Corpe (2), and W. Gibson. Jack' Campbell snowed the best pet lamb. There'were strong classes of a dozen, and the lambs were very fine specimens. Stella Sheppard's entry was second. There was very little competition in the pig section. The only Berkshire shown was a sow exhibited by J. H. King, and this was awarded a first prize. • J. H. King won the class for sow and litter, also. The baconer and porker classes were won by W. R. Goodrich. ■ ■
