MOANA FROM SAN FRANCISCO. From San Francisco, via Papeete and Rarotonga, the Union Company s Moana. arrived in the stream at Wellington early y«terday' morning. After having been granted pratique T>y the Port cer the vessel berthed at the Queens Wharf No. 6. According to an offlcjall report of the journey, the Moana was kept waiting for the mails to arrive at Frisco, for three days, and did not clear the. Golden Gate till 10 a.m. on January 9. Hio arrived at Papeete at 5 a.m. •on January 21, and sailed again for Rarotonga at 6 a.in. on January 22. The Cook Islands port was made at 6 a.m. on January 24. and departure ta.kcn for Wellington; at 4 p.m. the mmc day. the vesscV arriving 03 above. '' After leaving San Francisco, the Moana experienced moderote varianie • winds and sea for the first two days out, thenco fresh north-east trades and modcrate sea with fine clca.r weather to Papeete. From the latter port to Rarotonga the vessel encountered strong following winds and sea; On the nm down to New Zealand the same conditions prevailed, except that tho weather was very fine nod clear. . „ . ~ Imports by the Moana were as follow;— 254 barrels oil. 26 cases oil. 80 kegs white lead, 10 cases dry 1 colours, 4 cases brushes. 46 packages tyres, and rubber goods, 1050 boxes prunes, 350 boxes dried- apples, 70 boxes dried peaches, <3150 boxes raisins. 625 boxes dried apricots. 3312 coses canned fruits, • 150 eases canned tomatoes, 34 boxes figs, 20 cases canned corn, 4 cases olives, 6 c?«es asparagus. 10 cases, canned pineapple. % cases canned salmon, 47 packages periodicals, 6 cases shoos, 72 sacks beans, 11 barrels printing ink, 47 sacks Earden seed, 1 case corsets. 959 cafes Californian oranges, 370 cases Californian lemons, 1566 sacks copra, and «, quantity of bananas from Rarotonga, and sundries. Moana will leave Wellington for Sydney direct at 4 p.m. to-tfay.

She will be a f a6t passenger boat,' and has been designed to run in conjunction with the steamer Loonganov in the Melbourne-Ta-sraanian trade, ia terms of the new contract entered into with the Commonwealth Government. The new steamer (says the Sydney "Daily Telegraph" of January 18) will be replete with all the most modem appliances for the safety and comfort of passengers, and she will be equipped with water-tubo boilers and geared turbines. Two largo cargo steamers are ako Hearing completion/ One is being built by the Sunderland Shipbuilding Company, which they have named, flie Goulburn; the other by the Blyth Shipbuilding Company, which they have named the Hobburn, after the large coal property which the company has recently'acquired ,in Newcastle, The Goulburn is finished, and is now almost ready to leave on her outward voyage to Australia. "Ynrra" type, carrying a. cargo of 3600 tons on ft light draught at a speed of 10 knots.
The Hcbburn is expected to he ready for Eea next month. This vossel is an improvement on the Werribcc, which ship has proved so successful in the Tapid handling of cargo. The Hebburn will carry slichtly over 60CO tone deadweight at a £pced of 11 knots. She has 6ix holds,' as near a; 'possible of equal dimensions, and «, seventh of half the size, so that all these holds can he discharged in the same number of worktop hours. She has four masts to carry tho derriolts necessary for the rapid discharge of cargo from all these holds. Another innovation which-has been adopt c& in the building of this ship is that she ie built with a cruiser stern.
