Captain Bean, the official Press representative with the Australian Forces, cables that the attitude of the Turkish officials at the coastal ports visited by British ships provides a continual comedy. A cruiser recently called at Sidon (Sida), and landed a party of sailors. Tho commander of the Turkish troops, pleading indisposition, retired to a private room until the British had departed, after a thoroughly friendly visit. Later the Governor of Damascus officially published an. account of how the Turkish troops heavily defended Sidon and finally drovo off the enemy. The cruisor also landed parties at Aloxandretta without resistance. A general hospital has been established at Heliopolis in tho Palace Hotel, one of tho most luxurious hotels in the world.
